Privacy Policy

Pause is a personal app about a personal habit, so it is built to keep as little as possible. This policy describes the Pause iPhone app and this website separately, because they handle information differently.

Effective date: July 28, 2026

1. Introduction

This policy explains how information is handled by Pause. Two separate things are covered, and it matters which one you are using:

  • The Pause iPhone app — the app you install on your device.
  • This website — which today exists to describe Pause and collect waitlist signups.

They are described separately below because they behave very differently. “We” means the independent developer of Pause.

2. Information processed by the app

The Pause app does not ask you to create an account, and it does not collect a name, email address or contact list. The information below stays within the app’s own storage on your iPhone.

Screen Time and Family Controls data. When you grant Screen Time (Family Controls) authorization and choose apps, categories or web domains, Apple gives the app opaque tokens representing your selection rather than readable app names. Pause stores those tokens locally so it can apply your settings.

Past Self videos and media. Recordings you make are written to the app’s own storage directory on your device. They are not uploaded to a Pause server.

Settings, schedules and activity records. Your preferences, guard schedules, temporary-access usage, tasks and the counts shown on the progress screens are saved on your device so the app can work between launches.

3. Information collected through this website

Waitlist form. If you join the waitlist, we store the email address you submit and, if you choose to provide it, a first name. That entry is stored in a database hosted by Supabase, which acts as our hosting provider for the waitlist. We use it only to send you Pause launch and early-access updates.

Hosting. This site is served by our web host (Vercel). Like most web hosts, it processes standard technical request information such as IP address, user agent and requested URL in order to deliver and protect the site.

We do not run advertising trackers, and this site does not use cookies for analytics or advertising.

4. Subscriptions and purchases

Pause Pro has not launched. There is currently no in-app purchase, and the app does not process payments.

When subscriptions launch, they will be sold through the Apple App Store. Apple handles payment, billing and receipts, and we never receive your payment card details. Apple’s handling of that information is governed by Apple’s own privacy policy. If a subscription-management provider is added before launch, this policy will be updated to name it before the feature ships.

5. Analytics and crash reporting

The current build of the Pause app does not include third-party analytics, advertising or crash-reporting services. The usage counts shown inside the app are calculated on your device for your own progress screens and are not transmitted to us. If that ever changes, this policy will be updated before the change ships.

6. How information is used

  • To apply the app settings and app selection you configured.
  • To play back the Past Self message you recorded.
  • To show you your own progress information inside the app.
  • To email you Pause launch and early-access updates, if you joined the waitlist.
  • To respond to a support or privacy request you send us.

7. How information is stored

App information is stored in the Pause app’s container on your iPhone and is protected by iOS file protection and, where credentials are involved, the device keychain. If you use iCloud Backup or encrypted device backups, iOS may include app data in those backups under Apple’s terms.

Waitlist entries are stored in our Supabase database. We do not claim end-to-end encryption for any part of this service.

8. Third-party services

  • Apple — provides the Screen Time and Family Controls frameworks used by the app, distributes the app, and will handle any future subscription billing.
  • Supabase — hosts the database holding website waitlist entries.
  • Vercel — hosts this website.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share waitlist entries with third parties for their own marketing.

9. Data retention

App data stays on your device until you delete it in the app, reset the app, or delete the app. Waitlist entries are kept until you ask us to remove them or until the waitlist is no longer needed, whichever comes first.

10. Your choices

  • You can revoke Screen Time, camera or microphone permission at any time in iOS Settings.
  • You can delete individual Past Self recordings inside the app.
  • You can reset the app's stored settings from within the app.
  • You can unsubscribe from waitlist email using the link in any message we send.

11. Deletion requests

Deleting the Pause app from your iPhone removes its local data, including any Past Self recordings. To have your waitlist entry deleted, email privacy@pause-app.example from the address you signed up with and we will remove it.

12. Children's privacy

Pause is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has submitted information through the waitlist, email privacy@pause-app.example and we will delete it.

13. Security

We use reasonable technical measures to protect the limited information we hold, including transport encryption for the website and access controls on the waitlist database. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

14. International processing

Our hosting providers operate infrastructure in multiple countries, so waitlist information may be processed outside the country where you live. By submitting the waitlist form you consent to that processing.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Pause develops — particularly before new features such as subscriptions ship. When we do, the effective date at the top of this page will change. Material changes will be reflected here before the related feature is released.

16. Contact

Questions about this policy can be sent to privacy@pause-app.example. For help using the app, see the support page.
